Why I Like this Book:

Imperfectly Perfect Posey gently reminds kids and big kids (aka, adults) that it’s the journey not the result that matters. As the story begins, readers meet Posey, who does everything perfectly. Maybe you’re like that or know someone who is (or thinks they are). But given the title and that second sentence on the first spread, we know that Posey may not master yoga poses initially, despite her name.

What will she do? This being a picture book, you probably can guess that she’ll quit. At least initially. I won’t spoil the ending by indicating what steps she takes on the journey to rejoin yoga classes and try again. But I think readers young and old will relate to her flip-flopping and the final resolution of the story.

Heikura’s sweet pastel illustrations capture Posey’s story perfectly, especially that perfectly-imperfect wild red hair!

Whether you or your littles are perfect at yoga (or some other pursuit), trying but not mastering yoga, or never even tried it, I think you’ll enjoy imperfectly perfect Posey’s story.

A Note about Craft:

I love how Brooks chose her main character’s name: Posey. Of course, Posey and young readers would believe she could master yoga poses easily with that name. I also love that Brooks reveals on the jacket cover that she’s a yoga instructor: what better person to tell Posey’s story.

This Perfect Picture Book entry is being added to Susanna Hill’s Perfect Picture Book list. Check out the other great picture books featured there!
