Why I Like this Book:
With vibrant illustrations and kid-friendly rhymes, Tanis explores how ocean dwellers show love. From loving pairs, like clownfish, to maternal love, shown by an octopus guarding eggs, Tanis introduces young readers to several sea creatures and their mates or progeny. Interestingly, the text appears as only two sentences – the first, very long, as hinted at in the opening quoted above, and the second on the last spread. That, combined with the rhyming scheme, quickens the pace, which is perfect for the littlest listeners. And for those little listeners who love sea creatures, there’s plenty to see in each colorful spread. Tanis even includes the name of each creature within each spread.
Especially for little listeners, Love Under the Sea is a wonderful introduction to sea creatures and those they love.
A Note about Craft:
I mentioned above that the text consists of two sentences! Brevity at its best! Tanis also wrote and illustrated Love in the Wild and Love Under the Stars.
